About us

We love financial
services technologies

FinLab AG is one of the first and one of the largest German company builders and investors in the financial services technology sector.

Started in December 2014 with a balance sheet of EUR 35m and listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (A7A), we focus on incubating German-based fintech start ups and investing globally in venture funding rounds of fintech companies.

Creating new solutions
for changing markets

Over the next decade and beyond, a vast opportunity exists to profit from the emergence of a new paradigm in financial services and markets. New disruptive  business models, products and services – enabled by great leaps in technology – are challenging incumbents and traditional market structures.
Our vision is to build one of the leading investors in global financial services technologies by re-inventing the production and distribution of financial products and services.
Our team and our shareholders have long standing experience both in traditional financial services business models and in technology based businesses. This experience combined with an innovative, robust and efficient approach to building a high-tech, high-growth financial services group from the ground up will drive our success.

It is all
about people

At the heart of FinLab:
Incubation & Company Building

Our core focus lies on incubating new fintech business models in Germany with a subsequent European and global roll out. We aim to own a majority of those companies and to (co-)finance them through the various rounds.

Venture deals for broader diversification and global reach

In addition to incubating our own ideas, we are also active as a value-add venture capital investor in seed- and follow-on rounds for fintech companies both in Germany and globally that meet our criteria.. For a convincing business idea with an excellent management, we are agnostic when it comes to stage, country, occasion etc.

Fund-investments round up our portfolio

Selectively we also invest in other funds and incubators that focus on fintech investments, especially in the US and Asia, in order to increase our understanding and footprint, to learn about new innovations and and to create co-investment opportunities.

Creating a new breed
of global banks

The market for insurance and financial services is one of the biggest markets in the world, accounting  for ~8% of the global GDP or € 4.5 trillion. The financial sector faces strict supervision and regulation which creates an entry barrier for start-up companies. Moreover, finance products are highly complex, trust-based goods. As a consequence traditional banks and insurance companies have long been protected from competition by new digital entrants. However this is changing: Consumers are getting used to purchasing products and services online. E-Commerce, which started with simple and standardized products such as books, expanded into more complex categories such as textiles and electronics . It is now time to disrupt highly complex and trust-based goods such as financial services. Banks and insurances are the next big frontier.
